Jason Lambert wins 2018 FLW Tour at Kentucky Lake

Jerky J FLW Win

Curtis Niedermier, writing for FLW Fishing:

Lambert’s limit today eclipsed his own record for the heaviest five-fish limit in a Tour event on Kentucky Lake, which he set in 2016 with 29 pounds. That year, Lambert won the tournament with a four-day total of 97-2. He’s not going to need that much weight to earn his sixth FLW victory this week, but everyone will most definitely be watching to see if he can threaten the 100-pound mark again.

All week, Lambert has relied mostly on a 5- and 7-inch Castaic Jerky J. It’s a shad-bodied soft bait that Lambert calls a straight-tail swimbait. He’s fishing it on a custom 1-ounce Scrounger-style jighead. He says the bill on the original Scrounger was made with a very specific type of plastic, and it’s difficult to find because it’s no longer being used to make commercially available heads. He has a source, and is able to have just the right jigheads manufactured.

In another story, Niedermier writes:

“Usually there are more schools this time of year. When there are a lot more schools I don’t really worry or care about one particularly school. If somebody gets on it you just go to the next one or the next one or the next one. This time I literally saw them in, like, 12 places. Some of them left. I found a couple new ones [schools] during tournament. I found a new one yesterday. I went to fish it when I was coming back up today, and the carp had moved in, and they [the bass] were gone.”

His primary lure was a Castaic Baits Jerky J (5 and 7 inch) fished on a 1-ounce Scrounger-style jighead.

An all-around amazing weekend for Jason. Click-through to check out some amazing photos from the tournament.
